Presided over by the Chief Executive, Ho Iat Seng, the swearing-in ceremony of a new prosecutor of the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) took place at 12pm on 8 September 2020, at MP's multi-purpose hall situated on 7/F, Dynasty Plaza, NAPE. The oath taking procedure was administered by the Prosecutor General, Ip Son Sang.
According to the Executive Order No. 24/2020, published in Issue 30 of the MSAR Official Gazette, Series I, on 27 July 2020, the Chief Executive appointed Jorge Manuel Vaz Monteiro Dias Duarte, who is of foreign nationality, as a prosecutor of the Public Prosecutions Office of the Macao Special Administrative Region by contract for a two-year term upon nomination of the Prosecutor General, effective as of 1 September 2020.

Prosecutor Jorge Manuel Vaz Monteiro Dias Duarte, male, holder of Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Law from the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University of Portugal (Universidade Católica Portuguesa). In 1988, he completed the trainee lawyer programme in Portugal. From 1990 to 1991, Duarte attended the "9th General Training Course for Magistrates" organized by the Portugal Centre for Judicial Studies (Centro de Estudos Judiciários, CEJ); from 1991, he served as judicial counsellor of the same centre. In November 1993, he was appointed as assistant magistrate of the Porto region of Portugal; in April 2009, as prosecutor general; in 2011, as coordinator of the Villa Nova de Gaia of Portugal; in September 2015, as training coordinator of the CEJ's (Northern) District Court.
