Delegation of the Centre for Judicial and Legal Studies of China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries of the University of Macau visits the Public Prosecutions Office (2026-05-19)

Assistant Prosecutor General Mai Man Ieng received a delegation today (19 May) led by Tong Io Cheng, Director of the Centre for Judicial and Legal Studies of China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries of the University of Macau. The two sides exchanged views on the progress of the research centre and the development of judicial and legal systems.

During the meeting, Assistant Prosecutor General Mai Man Ieng noted that the Centre was jointly established by the Supreme People’s Court of the People’s Republic of China and the University of Macau, and receives operational guidance from the relevant departments of the Supreme People’s Court regarding its development direction and strategy. The establishment of the Centre is of great significance to advancing the rule of law in the Macao SAR, as well as furthering judicial and legal studies of China and Portuguese-speaking countries.

In addition, Director Tong Io Cheng gave an overview of the Centre’s operational structure and its Lusophone Legal Database. Both sides discussed how to make full use of their respective roles as a “precise connector” between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, and expressed a mutual desire to strengthen future communication and contribution to the judicial and legal development of the Macao SAR.

The meeting was also attended by Jiang Yiwa, Associate Director of the Centre for Judicial and Legal Studies of China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries; Wong Hio Nam, Chief of Office and Chan Ka Ian, Adviser of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
