
Prosecutor General Tong Hio Fong met with a seven‑member delegation from the Supreme People’s Procuracy of Viet Nam led by Tran Hai Quan, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy of Viet Nam yesterday (April 16), to foster friendly cooperation between the Supreme People’s Procuracy of Viet Nam and the Public Prosecutions Office of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MP) and to enhance exchanges and collaboration in prosecutorial affairs.
During the meeting, Prosecutor General Tong Hio Fong introduced MP’s functions, structure, operation, major types of crime handled and furtherance of “smart prosecution” to the delegation. He promised that the MP will continue to uphold the principles of friendly cooperation, mutual benefit and learning in deepening judicial collaboration with the Vietnamese prosecution and working together for a stable, solid and efficient regional system for the rule of law.
Tran Hai Quan, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy of Viet Nam, stated that his office attaches great importance to digitalization in prosecutorial affairs. His office is committed to establishing digital platforms for handling criminal cases and public interest litigation to enhance investigative efficiency and judicial credibility. He also expressed his hope for further strengthening ties and cooperation with the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the Chinese Mainland and MP of the Macao SAR to jointly promote rule of law in the region.
Both sides also discussed about prosecutorial systems, combat against cross-border crimes and advancement of digitalization in prosecutorial work.
Delegates of the Supreme People’s Procuracy of Viet Nam also included Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, Vu Thi Hai Yen; Director of the Department for Prosecution and Investigation of Drug Cases, Phung Duc Tien; Director of the Department of Detention, Preventive Detention and Execution of Criminal Sentences, Lai Anh Tuan; Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Hanoi Municipal People’s Procuracy, Le Thi Thu Nguyet; Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, Bui Viet Duong; and Secretary to the Head of the Delegation, Nguyen Doan Tien. Participants of the meeting from MP included Assistant Prosecutors General, Mai Man Ieng and Kok Sio Peng; Chief of the Office of the Prosecutor General, Wong Hio Nam; and Prosecutors Cheng Hoi Fung, Mui Cheng Fei, and Leong Choi Man.
