Prosecutor General Tong Hio Fong led a delegation to attend the “XXII Meeting of Prosecutors General of CPLP” (2025-11-13)

On 2 November, Prosecutor General Tong Hio Fong led a five-member delegation of the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) of the Macao Special Administrative Region to Lisboa, Portugal, to attend the XXII Meeting of Prosecutors General of CPLP (Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries) as a permanent observer. The delegation met and exchanged views with the Prosecutors General and representatives from the nine member states, including Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Timor-Leste.

In order to further strengthen and consolidate comprehensive exchanges and cooperation between the MSAR and Portuguese-speaking countries, the MP actively pursued official membership to participate in the meetings held by this prosecutorial organization. During the meeting, Prosecutor General Tong Hio Fong had bilateral meetings with several delegations from member states and secured their full support for MP’s proposal. Consequently, the Prosecutor General of MSAR was unanimously approved to become an official member of the organization. It was also decided that Macao will host the “Meeting of the CPLP Prosecutors General and the MSAR Prosecutor General” next year, with the MSAR Prosecutor General serving as chair of the meeting in accordance with the relevant internal statutes.

The theme of this CPLP Prosecutors General’s Meeting was “Economic and Financial Crime in the Era of Artificial Intelligence: Digital Evidence and Asset Recovery”. Delegations held discussions surrounding this theme. Among them, Prosecutor Ho I Sut delivered a report on the “Advantages and Challenges of Using Artificial Intelligence in Criminal Investigation”, discussing AI use and development in facilitating evidence analysis and improving judicial efficiency.

The MP delegation also included Chief of Office of the Prosecutor General, Wong Hio Nam and Prosecutor Coordinator, Álvaro António Mangas Abreu Dantas, among others.
