Prosecutor General Chan Tsz King led a delegation of the Public Prosecutions Office of the Macao SAR (MP) to attend the 30th Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Association of Prosecutors held in Singapore earlier. Delegates included Prosecutors Cheng Hoi Fung and Mui Cheng Fei, among others. The MP has long valued and actively participated in international exchange and cooperation within the prosecutorial field, and has established solid connections with prosecution agencies worldwide. By sharing insights on local system development and practical experience, it aims to expand its international network and enhance its participation in the international community.
The theme of this year’s IAP Annual Conference is “The Versatile Prosecutor and the Administration of Criminal Justice”, which brought together over 380 representatives from prosecution agencies of more than 80 countries and regions. Participants engaged in discussions on combating new types of crime, crime trends in the era of artificial intelligence, and enhancing the efficiency of international cooperation. During the conference, Prosecutor Mui Cheng Fei, representing the MP, delivered a speech in the special interest session on “Trauma-informed justice - Safeguarding victims in legal proceedings”. Ms Mui elaborated on the innovative measures taken by the MP regarding victim protection mechanisms and trauma-informed practices, and put forward specific suggestions for improving evidence collection, enhancing victim involvement and strengthening psychological support measures.
The Annual Conference featured multiple special interest sessions and workshops, focusing on new crime patterns driven by artificial intelligence and encrypted assets. It also proposed practical operational directions for collaboration mechanisms such as cross-border intelligence sharing, professional technical training, and legal system optimization, all aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of investigations and prosecutions.
During the visit, the MP delegation paid a courtesy call to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Singapore, where they were received by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Cao Zhongming, and Deputy Chief of Mission (Minister Counsellor), Zhu Jing. Both sides exchanged views on leveraging the Macao SAR’s active role in the international arena, expressing the hope that the MP would continue to utilize its unique function and positioning in participating in the establishment of international rule of law.
