Delegation of the People’s Procuratorate of Guangdong Province visits Macao (2025-04-09)

At the invitation of the Public Prosecutions Office of the Macao SAR (MP), an 8-people delegation led by the Secretary of Party Leadership Group and Chief Prosecutor of the People’s Procuratorate of Guangdong Province, Feng Jian, made an official visit to Macao from 9 to 11 April 2025.

On 9 April, the delegation was warmly welcomed by the Prosecutor General Chan Tsz King. During the meeting, Mr Chan indicated that as this year marks the final year of the country’s 14th Five-Year Plan and the year of initiating compilation of the 15th Five-Year Plan, this exchange and visit of the People’s Procuratorate of Guangdong Province to Macao is of great significance. Prosecutor General Chan Tsz King believed that President Xi Jinping’s visit to Macao on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the return of the Macao SAR to the Motherland, his important remarks and instructions given during the visit all demonstrated the Central People's Government's care and affection for the Macao SAR. MP will stay committed to the fundamental policy of “One Country” and fully deliver the benefits of “Two Systems”, better serve as a bridge of communication between prosecutorial organs of the Mainland and Portuguese-speaking countries, and assist the country in exerting greater international influence. Prosecutor General Chan Tsz King also introduced MP’s statutory functions and basic operation.

Chief Prosecutor Feng Jian appreciated MP’s cordial reception. He then introduced prosecutorial system and practice in the Mainland, and acknowledged that MP has been enforcing law strictly and providing legal safeguard to the steadfast and successful implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle. Mr Feng suggested further exchanges between the prosecutorial organs of Guangdong and Macao to facilitate establishment and development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. He also proposed closer judicial cooperation between Guangdong and Macao, as well as more exchanges between people of the two places.

Both parties explored the convergence and integration of the legal rules and mechanisms in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, examined feasibility of a regular and stable liaison mechanism, organization of seminar on judicial practice and how to fully utilize the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Branch of the National Prosecutors College as a training platform for personnel of both agencies. They also reiterated the importance of researches on regularization of regional judicial cooperation between Macao and the Mainland to jointly develop an international first-class bay area upholding the rule of law.
