(Cited from the Supreme People’s Procuratorate) On 22 August 2024, Mr. Tong Jianming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and First Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), met with a delegation led by Mr. Ip Son Sang, Prosecutor General of the Public Prosecutions Office of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
Noting that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland, Tong said that, over the past 25 years, the Macao SAR government and residents from all sectors of society have worked together to uphold the constitutional order based on the Constitution and the Basic Law of the Macao SAR under the strong leadership of the central government, ensuring the successful practice of “one country, two systems” with Macao characteristics. Other than that, with the constant strengthening of exchanges and cooperation between the procuratorial organs from the mainland and Macao SAR, fruitful results have been achieved.
During the meeting, Tong presented to the delegation the development of the rule of law and procuratorial work on the mainland. He also said that the third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) adopted the resolution on further deepening reform comprehensively to advance Chinese modernization, planning for improving a rule of law system with Chinese characteristics. Besides, the procuratorates of the mainland are deeply studying and implementing the guiding principles of the plenum, adhering to the socialist path of the rule of law with Chinese characteristics, integrating reform and the rule of law, and striving to “handle each case with high quality and efficiency”, to provide support for and serve Chinese modernization with modernized prosecution.
Tong added that organizing training sessions for the MP delegation is a concrete measure to implement the guiding principles of the third plenary session of the Central Committee. Procuratorial organs from the mainland and Macao are to develop close relations to deepen cooperation, and share experiences in procuratorial work, in order to enrich the practice of “one country, two systems”, support Macao’s integration into national development, and promote the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Guangdong-Macao in-depth cooperation zone in Hengqin, Guangdong province.
Prosecutor General, Ip Son Sang, expressed gratitude for the longstanding support from the SPP for the work of the Public Prosecutions Office of the Macao SAR, which resolutely implements the principle of “patriots governing Macao”, fulfills its prosecutorial duties in accordance with the law, and vigorously safeguards national sovereignty, security and development interests. At the same time, he hoped to strengthen communication and exchange with procuratorates in the Mainland to better serve overall national economic and social development and promote the country’s modernization.
