Recently, Prosecutor General Ip Son Sang has led a delegation of the Public Prosecutions Office of the Macao Special Administrative Region to Beijing, where the delegation visited national entities such as the National Supervisory Commission, the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, the Ministry of Public Security, and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council. In-depth discussions were conducted on mutual assistance in prosecution matters between Mainland China and the Macao SAR, as well as on safeguarding national security and maintaining social stability from the public prosecution perspective, among other topics. In addition, the delegation also visited the Beijing Internet Court and had exchanges with fellow prosecutors from the Beijing Municipal People’s Procuratorate and the First Branch of the Beijing Municipal People’s Procuratorate.
During their visit to Beijing, delegates learnt that it was widely perceived by the leaders of the mainland entities that since Macao’s Handover to the Motherland, under the correct leadership of the Central People’s Government and the solid support of Mainland China, the SAR has been properly and comprehensively understanding and upholding the “One Country, Two Systems” Principle, firmly defending the authority of the Constitution and the Basic Law, conducting governance according to the law, which has led to full progress in all sectors, secured stable life and satisfactory employment for the general public.
When visited by the delegation, Procurator-General of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate Zhang Jun explained that during the period for prevention and control of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate has diverged from its normal practice and has, solely or jointly with other government entities, published a total of 55 typical cases in 10 times to instruct on investigations, to deter criminals, and to call for public awareness. The Procuratorate joined hands with relevant government entities to maintain social order and consolidate the defense against the pandemic and for rule of law. Procurator-General Zhang Jun hoped that the two prosecution bodies can further strengthen exchanges on criminal judiciary, as well as in cooperation in serving and protecting the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, alongside in informational construction, exchanges and training for prosecution officers.
When visiting the capital, Prosecutor General Ip Son Sang extended gratitude to the different national entities for their resounding support to the work of the Public Prosecutions Office of the Macao SAR. He pledged that the Public Prosecutions Office of the Macao SAR will continue to firmly defend the constitutional order in the Macao SAR as stipulated by the Constitution and the Basic Law, thoroughly implement the fundamental principle of “Patriots Governing Macao”, assisting Macao SAR’s integration into the master plan of national development by legal means, and fulfil legal responsibilities in ensuring Macao’s long-term prosperity and stability.
