On 21 April 2016, Mr Ip Son Sang, the prosecutor general of Macao attended the two meetings in Beijing between Ms Joana Marques Vidal, the prosecutor general of the Republic of Portugal, her Chinese counterpart Mr Cao Jianming and Mr Zhou Qiang, the president of the Supreme People’s Court of PRC respectively.
Ms Vidal’s delegation departed for Beijing on 20 April 2016 upon completion of its four-day trip in Macao and under assistance the Macao Public Prosecutions Office (MP). During its four-day visit to Beijing, the delegation was cordially received by Mr Cao and Mr Zhou. All parties introduced judicial services provided by their respective countries and recognized long-standing friendship and sincere cooperation between judiciary organs of their countries. In addition, all sides expressed the common aspiration of further promoting judiciary collaboration at the meeting.
MP arranged a series of activities for Ms Vidal and her delegation both in Macao and the Chinese Mainland. Meanwhile, MP also discussed mutual legal assistance, exchange and trainings for magistrates and library resources sharing issues with the delegates from the Portuguese Public Prosecution Service comprehensively. The two sides reached extensive consensus on the aforesaid fields.
Visits paid by Ms Vidal and her delegation to MP, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate and the Supreme People’s Court of PRC provided momentum for enhancing judicial cooperation between judiciary agencies of China and Portuguese-speaking countries.
