On 21 May 2016, a delegation of six headed by Mr António Silva Henriques Gaspar, the president of the Portuguese Supreme Court of Justice visited the Macao Public Prosecutions Office (MP) in the morning. The delegation was escorted by Mr Vítor Sereno, the Portuguese consul general to Macao and Hong Kong, and Mr Viriato Lima, judge of the Macao Court of Final Appeal. Mr Ip Son Sang, the prosecutor general of Macao, Ms Ma Iek, Mr Vong Vai Va, Mr Mai Man Ieng and Ms Kok Sio Peng, assistant prosecutors general of Macao, and Mr Chao Chi Peng, prosecutor of Macao cordially received the delegates. The host and the guests conducted candid discussions on judicial systems of Portugal and Macao, as well as mutual legal assistance between the two.
Mr Ip introduced operation and status quo of MP to the delegates and expressed MP’s intent to strengthen judicial exchanges and cooperation between Portugal and Macao.
According to President Gaspar, Portugal and Macao have long and interweaving historical connections and the two have been enjoying a close relationship. Thus, he attaches great importance to cooperation and communication with judicial institutions of Macao. He looks forward to more practical and effective judicial collaboration with MP made possible through concerted efforts.
