Recently, the police arrested a Mainland man suspected of attempted homicide. The case has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) for investigation, and the suspect is currently placed under preventive detention pending trial.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect and the female victim became acquainted in Macao in May 2025. They subsequently entered into a romantic relationship. In July this year, as the victim was distancing herself from the suspect and dating someone else, the suspect believed that he had been emotionally and financially deceived. On the afternoon of the incident, the suspect purchased two box cutters in Taipa. He then took out a table knife and fork from his hotel room. That evening, after tailing the victim to a seven-seater vehicle parked outside a hotel, the suspect rushed into the vehicle with the knife and cutters. He struck the victim on her face, neck and various parts of her body. However, security staff promptly subdued the suspect, preventing his attempt to murder the victim.
The suspect was transferred to the Criminal Preliminary Hearing Court for initial judicial interrogation. Following the interrogation, the Court considered that there were strong indications the suspect had attempted to commit the crime of “homicide”, stipulated and penalized under article 128 of the Macao Penal Code. Taking into account factors such as nature and severity of the crime, modus operandi, motives and necessity to prevent the suspect from fleeing Macao, the Criminal Preliminary Hearing Court adopted the coercive measure of preventive detention against the suspect as proposed by the MP.
Pursuant to the Criminal Procedure Code, the MP will continue to direct subsequent investigation.
The MP hereby calls for the public to refrain from resolving emotional and personal issues through violence, nor to commit any illegal acts out of impulse. The MP will not tolerate any violent crimes and will rigorously combat all illegal and criminal activities that jeopardize public order as well as the personal safety and property of residents, so as to effectively safeguard residents’ safety of person and property.
